September 30, 2024 - For a one-week rental beginning on Monday, September 30, we've checked the lowest advertised price for a car rental from Maui's Kahului Airport (OGG), for selected vehicle categories. For each vehicle type, we list the price and the company offering the best deal.

For most of these vehicle categories, the prices are at about the same level as last week. The exceptions are Jeeps, down from last week, and minivans, up from last week. All prices are below their summer high season levels from last July. The first chart (Figure 1) shows the change in prices over the last three months for the vehicle categories we've listed.

AIRPORT PRICES VS. OFF-AIRPORT

The prices listed above are all for airport rentals. In most cases, cheaper prices are available for rentals from nearby off-airport locations served by shuttle. The second chart compares this week's airport prices vs off-airport for all the vehicle categories listed. In most cases, the off-airport price is lower than the airport price due to additional taxes and fees and the "convenience premium" that rental companies charge. However, from time to time there are exceptions where the off-airport price is higher, as it is this week for convertibles and 7-seat SUV's. This can be seen in the second chart (Figure 2).

These prices are from our survey taken on 9/29/24, for a one-week rental from Maui's Kahului Airport (OGG), beginning on Monday, 9/30/24, for seven vehicle categories, Economy Car, Midsize Car, Convertible, Jeep, SUV, 7-passenger SUV, and Minivan. The rental companies covered in the survey are Ace, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Fox, Hertz, National, NU, Payless, SiXT, and Thrifty. CHEAPEST ONE-WEEK RENTAL PRICES FOR MONDAY 9/30/24

This week the cheapest price for a one week car rental from Maui's Kahului Airport (OGG) is $260 (down $3 from last week). For a rental from nearby off-airport locations served by shuttle, the cheapest price is $227 (up $20). These prices include all taxes and fees, but they do not include insurance or any other optional add-ons like roadside assistance or re-fueling.

We collect Maui car rental price data as part of our weekly survey of car rental prices for a one-week rental. Every Sunday, we check prices for a one-week rental beginning the following day, Monday. The lowest advertised rate week by week for the entire last year is shown in the accompanying chart (Figure 3), for both airport and off-airport categories.
