July 21, 2024 - For car rentals from Maui's Kahului Airport (OGG), the best prices across various vehicle categories are ACE Rentacar for off-airport rentals served by shuttle, and Dollar Car Rental for rentals from the airport rentacar center.

This is based on our survey of car rental prices for a one-week rental beginning on July 22, 2024. The survey was conducted on July 21, one day before the beginning of rental. Our research indicates that the best prices are available in the few days leading up to the rental. See the details in our blog post When is the best time to rent a car in Maui.  

Also in the running for best price with off-airport rentals are SiXT and Fox - these two dominate the exotic Jeep and Convertible categories, with off-airport offerings served by shuttle. For airport rentals, Budget and Thrifty are in contention for best prices on convertibles, Jeeps, SUV's and minivans, while Dollar dominates in the lower price categories of passenger cars.

But it's not all about price. With customer satisfaction as a factor, from Maui's Kahului Airport, the best customer ratings and reviews go to National, with 4.7 stars on Google, followed by Alamo and Enterprise, tied with 4.6. Also in the running, Sixt, with 4.2. Disappointingly, Ace, Budget, Dollar, and Thrifty, the price leaders, dont' do as well on customer ratings.

These are the tabulated results of the lowest advertised price, based on our survey conducted on 7/21/24, for a one-week rental from Maui's Kahului Airport (OGG), beginning on Monday, 7/22/24, for seven vehicle categories, Wildcard, Small Car, Standard Car, Convertible, Jeep, SUV, and minivan. The companies. The companies included in the survey were ACE, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Fox, Payless, SiXT, and Thrifty. For each vehicle category, we list the lowest price for both airport rentals and off-airport rentals, with the name of the company offering that price.

The Wildcard vehicle category, or Dealer's Choice, is for whatever car the company wishes to make available, at the best price. The other vehicle categories are as their name indicates.

An interesting note: prices for airport rentals from OGG are usually higher than prices off-airport. But not always. There are exceptions. This week, the price for a Jeep or SUV was slightly higher off-airport. So it pays to check prices for both options.
