Feb. 15, 2026. Rental cars for Maui are completely sold out from Kahului Airport (OGG) for one-week rentals beginning Monday Feb. 16, 2026. No vehicles of any kind are available to rent for a full week from the providers listed in the Online Travel Agent (OTA) systems like Expedia, Travelocity, Kayak, and so on. The listed companies serving Maui are Ace, Alamo, All-Save, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Fox, National, Nu, Payless, Sixt, and Thrifty.

WHAT ABOUT OFF-AIRPORT RENTALS?

With OTA-listed locations, we have found two options for renting a car for a full-week beginning Monday.

1. Dollar and Thrifty in Ka'anapali. These rentals are at a starting cost of $823 and are limited to compact and intermediate cars, with no availability for any other vehicle type - no Jeeps, convertibles, SUV's, or vans. Vehicles must be picked up and returned in Ka'anapali
2. Enterprise in Kahului. Located just a quick Uber ride from the airport, this Enterprise office is offering the option to pick up a car in Kahului and return it to the airport a week later, with a starting cost of $1,276 for a compact car. There is a full range of vehicle options available, including SUV and minivan, at higher cost.

IS THERE ANY OTHER WAY OF RENTING A CAR FROM OGG FOR ONE WEEK?

The options listed above could run out of availability at any moment, leaving travelers to scramble for other options. Are there any other options? The answer is yes, and in the words of Paul Simon, "the answer is easy, if you take it logically." The logical approach, when there is zero availability for a full one-week rental, is to try break up the rental into smaller chunks, to take advantage of gaps in the rental schedule of multiple companies. With some trial and error, we found this combination:

By picking up a car on Monday and exchanging it Friday, then again Saturday and Sunday , a clever traveler can have wheels for the entire week, at a total cost of $1,309, with pickup and return at the airport. Note this particular combo spreads the business between all major rental groups, Enterprise/Alamo/National, Hertz/Dollar/Thrifty, Avis/Budget/Payless, plus one major independent, SiXT. Kudos for spreading the wealth to anyone who goes this route.

HOW ABOUT NEXT WEEK?

As of today, February 15, 2026, the lowest advertised prices for a one week rental booked in advance, both from the airport rentals and off-airport, are as follows for future dates one week apart starting one week from Monday:

These advance reservation prices, marked as "Forecast," are illustrated in the area highlighted in Figure 1, which also shows the evolution of the lowest available price over the last 13 months.

Based on the data in the Online Travel Agent (OTA) systems, availability should begin to improve next week, with advance prices stabilizing at a level between $500/week and $800/week through the month of March - this is a big improvement from recent prices.

This price movement would be consistent with the seasonal pattern observed every year, with prices dropping from their February levels to lower levels in March. This pattern is seen in the prices from one year ago in Figure 1. But this year it is likely that prices will continue to be higher than last year.

WILL THERE BE ANY LAST-MINUTE DISCOUNTS OR DEALS?

In mid-December of 2024, we began to track the movement of advance booking prices as the reservation date approaches. Every week, we check the price one week out, two weeks out, three weeks out, up to five weeks out, and save the numbers for comparison.

From mid-February of this year until early October, the prices available one day in advance and one week in advance have been consistently lower than the price five weeks in advance (see figure 2).

However, from October and onward, last minute prices have been higher than advance prices, and the trend continues this week. This indicates strong demand pressure and/or supply limitations driving up prices.

Notably, in the last few weeks, last minute prices have been ratcheting up significantly in the days preceding the rental, with the last-minute price one day in advance 2x or 3x the price one week in advance,

However we are beginning to see a softening of this ratcheting trend. The one-week advance price for a rental beginning one week from today is nearly the same as the five-week advance price for that date. This is the first time that the gap between one-week advance and five-week advance has closed since before Christmas. We take this as an indication that demand pressure is beginning to ease relative to the available supply of cars. However given the high level of price volatility that we've seen so far in 2026, we advise against waiting for last minute deals.

HOW DO WE GET OUR MAUI CAR RENTAL PRICE DATA?

Prices for Maui car rentals vary from week to week, and the company offering the lowest price also changes from week to week. Furthermore, one company may be offering the lowest price in one vehicle category, for example mid-size cars, while a different company has a better price on another category, for example mini-vans.

Beginning in July 2024, we've tracked the prices on seven vehicle categories - compact, mid-size, Jeep, convertible, SUV, 7-seat SUV, and minivan - from 10 different companies at Maui's Kahului Airport (OGG): Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Payless, SiXT, and Thrifty. Each week, for every vehicle type, we noted which company offered the lowest price. Our weekly price-tracking for the lowest price economy car category goes back to July 2023 - more than one year. These are the data for the charts we post every week.
