July 28, 2024 - Over the first 30 weeks (or seven months, January through July) of 2024, the lowest price for a one-week rental from Maui's Kahului Airport (OGG) averaged $310/week. The average low price for an off-airport rental served by shuttle was $221/week.

These rates for the lowest advertised price on an economy or compact vehicle. We also track the price for various vehicle categories (mid-size, SUV, Jeep, convertible, minivan) that cost more - you can find these below.

These rates are from our weekly survey of car rental prices for a one-week rental. Every Sunday, we check prices for a one-week rental beginning the following day, Monday. The companies included in the survey are Ace, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Fox, Hertz, National, Payless, SiXT, and Thrifty. Usually, more than 90% of the time, this last-minute price is the lowest available price for the rental, lower than a price booked in advance. See our research on When is The Best Time to Book a Car in Maui.  

Note that the median prices for these rentals were $292/week from the airport and $216/week off-airport - just slightly lower (and very close to, within about 5%) than the average price. This means that week-to-week the prices fell mostly within a fairly close range, with just a few price spikes - related to heavy travel holidays - that skew the average upward from the median.

MAUI CAR RENTAL PRICE SURVEY BY VEHICLE CATEGORY

Below, we present the tabulated results of the lowest advertised price, based on our survey conducted on 7/28/24, for a one-week rental from Maui's Kahului Airport (OGG), beginning on Monday, 7/29/24, for seven vehicle categories, Economy Car, Midsize Car, Convertible, Jeep, SUV, 7-passenger SUV, and Minivan. For each vehicle category, we list the lowest price for both airport rentals and off-airport rentals, with the name of the company offering that price. The numbers are illustrated in the price chart that accompanies this post.

Interesting Notes:

1. Prices for airport rentals from OGG are usually higher than prices off-airport. But not always. There are exceptions. This week, prices for Jeeps, convertibles, or SUVs were slightly higher off-airport. So it pays to check prices for both options.
2. Prices for minivans are coming back to earth after being sky-high for several weeks. Last week, beginning Monday July 22, the price for a one-week rental on a minivan was over $1,000. This week, beginning July 29, it is under $500.
