June 22, 2025. The Maui car rental market is experiencing a significant surge in prices as it enters the summer high season, driven by the approaching July 4th holiday. While most vehicle categories show sharp increases, convertibles are a notable exception, experiencing a consistent price drop. Historically, prices tend to peak around the July 4th holiday before slightly receding, maintaining high season levels through July and early August. Off-airport rentals, typically cheaper, are currently more expensive than airport rentals for most categories due to supply limitations. Maui, which held a 12-week streak as the cheapest Hawaiian island for car rentals, has seen a 40% price increase, making it slightly more expensive than Kauai this week.
