January 14, 2024 - The Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft has been in the news a lot recently after a body panel flew off one of the planes in mid-flight. Just imagine if a body panel or door flew off one of our Maui rental cars cruising down the highway, that would certainly earn us an irate one-star review on Yelp, if not a summary writ of execution.
With that said, Alaska Airlines and United - two of the carriers who serve Maui's Kahului Airport (OGG) with direct flights from the US mainland - have had to ground dozens of these planes until further notice. As a result, many of our Maui rental car customers are experiencing flight delays, flight re-schedulings, and even outright cancellations.
These are inconveniences to say the least, but for a moment try to put yourself in the shoes of the three onboard this small plane that crashed on approach to Kahului Airport (OGG), on the day before Christmas Eve. The crash site was in the wildlife sanctuary just one block from our location nearby OGG. By a true X-mas miracle, worthy of "It's a Wonderful Life," all three walked away. Remember to keep your seatbelts buckled and your shoe-laces tied at all times, you never know what's gonna happen.
Meanwhile, Maui car rental rates seem to be staging their own X-mas miracle, but synced with the Greek Orthodox calendar (two weeks later - who knew!?). Rates are up two weeks in a row, and getting closer to the usual for this time of year. For a one-week car rental from Maui's Kahului Airport (OGG), starting Monday 1/15, these are the lowest advertised rates:
Off-airport (with shuttle): $263.63
Airport Rentacar Center: $321.13

Just like late-night stragglers in a singles' bar at closing time, the year-round low Maui car rental discount rates from Frank's Friendly Cars are looking better and better with every passing minute.
